Adaptive Programs

We're excited to let you know that the Montrose Recreation District offers the opportunity for you to request classes in adaptive sports and recreation! At the heart of our mission is the belief that sports and recreation should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. Whether you're new to adaptive sports or looking to hone your skills, we're here to accommodate your needs and preferences. Our dedicated instructors are ready to tailor classes to suit your interests. The Recreation District strives to make ALL programs and facilities more inclusive by not only offering Adaptive Programs but also by getting input from our Accessibility Management Team and from the public.  Our goal is to serve everyone in our community by being inclusive. Rock & Roll - Inclusive Parent & Tot Time 

Begin a lifelong love of movement with this inclusive play program for childred with and without disabilities.  Share, take turns, and follow directions while singing songs and exploring equipment in this structured, collaborative setting.  Parents or caregivers must stay and play.

Adaptive Field Trip to Ouray Hot Springs 

Enjoy a relaxing and inclusive day in the warm water with friends.  A caregiver is required for anyone needing help with restrooms, changing, medications, or feeding.

Adaptive Physical Training 

Adapted fitness training is a program focusing on adapting workouts for each individual in the class with disabilities, following their physician’s guidance. The training is tailored towards adapted competition lifting movements, such as squats, deadlifts, and bench press. Registration and a physician’s clearance are required prior to participating, so be sure to register early. Adaptive Fitness Orientation 

Using fitness equipment can seem overwhelming for many individuals. If you or a loved one has a disability, it might feel like more of a challenge. Learn how to utilize equipment at the CRC from Danielle Musser (M.S. Certified Adapted Physical Education Specialist).

Adaptive Personal Training 

Sarah's Fitness Philosophy
Implementing a fitness program for the special needs population to grow and realize their true potential while educating health and wellness.

Bio
With over a decade of experience as an occupational therapist and coaching sports, I love working with the special needs population. Health and Fitness is a lifestyle and should be taught more in schools, having a disability puts you at an ever higher risk for depression and obesity. Providing functional training and education to enjoy a healthy life even with a disability is my goal.

Special Olympics Powerlifting Team 

Build strength, confidence, and teamwork with our Special Olympics Powerlifting Team!  Participants must have completed at least one Adaptive Physical Training session, identify as having an intellectual disability, and commit to the Regional Competition on April 25th.

Special Olympics Basketball 

Whether you're just starting out, or ready for a team experience, this program provides opportunities for everyone to grow, compete, and have fun!

Special Olympics Swim Team 

Dive into fun and fitness!  Inclusive practice sessions for all abilities to improve their strokes, build confidences, and celebrate achievements.  Make a splash and be part of a supportive community dedicated to athleticsim and camaraderie.  Participants must have a Special Olympics physical form on file prior to first practice.

Special Olympics Track and Field 

Go for the gold with our Special Olympics Track & field Team!  Events include walking races, running sprints, and other track activities for all ability levels.  Participants must identify as having an intellectual disability.

Adaptive Biking 

Ride at your own pace with our Adaptive Biking program!  Enjoy a fun, safe, and inclusive experience using adaptive bikes designed for all ability levels.  Participants must identify as having a disability.

Adaptive Field Trip to Telluride Adaptive Sports Program 

Experience the thrill of the slopes with a day trip to the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program.  Enjoy adaptive skiing in a supportive, inclusive environment designed for all ability levels.  Participants must identify as having a disability.
