Montrose Recreation District Announces Justin Mashburn as New Executive Director

MONTROSE, Colo. – The Montrose Recreation District Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Justin Mashburn as the District's next Executive Director, ushering in a new chapter of leadership during an exciting period of growth for recreation in the Montrose community.

Mashburn brings nearly 21 years of experience with the Montrose Recreation District, where he has served in leadership roles focused on recreation programming, facility management, community engagement, strategic planning, and organizational development. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated a commitment to expanding recreational opportunities, building strong partnerships, and enhancing the quality of life for residents of all ages. His experience, vision, and collaborative leadership style position him well to lead the District into its next chapter.

As Executive Director, Mashburn will lead the District through several significant capital projects while continuing to strengthen partnerships with local governments, schools, community organizations, user groups, and residents. His leadership will focus on delivering exceptional recreational experiences, maintaining high-quality parks and facilities, and ensuring the District remains responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

The Montrose Recreation District Board looks forward to working with Mashburn as the District continues to expand recreational opportunities, advance strategic capital investments, and fulfill its mission of enriching the lives of the Montrose community through parks, recreation, wellness, and exceptional customer service. He begins his new position on Monday, July 20, 2026.
