MRD offers a variety of different activities and weekly cultural, recreational and/or educational tours. Click on each tab to see a listing of activities/tours offered at this time.

50+ Adventures and Tours

Ridgway Dam Tour (April 18 & 25) 

Ridgway Dam of the Dallas Creek Project was constructed on the Uncompahgre River in 1987 to increase water supplies for irrigation and municipal and industrial purposes, to provide flood control & recreation opportunities. We will take an approximate 2 hour tour of this earth fill dam. Registration Deadline: April 7th.

Elk Mountain Resort - Lunch And Tour (May 26) 

Experience the Elk Mountain Resort located on nearly 300 acres of spruce, pine and aspen forest with a bounty of wildlife. We will dine on southern style comfort food prepared by the head chef and then tour the resort and surrounding out- buildings.

Crawford Pioneer Days (June 10) 

Experience the 44th Annual Crawford Pioneer Days “From Pioneer Days to Modern Ways”. We will watch the annual parade followed by outhouse races and a melodrama in the park. There are multiple vendors and food on site.

Crawford Gems (June 13) 

Steer It Up Ranch/ The Lodge at Needle Rock/ Smith Fork Ranch

Steer it Up Ranch breeds Yaks. Learn about the animals, their care and use of fiber and milk. The Lodge at Needle Rock offers 14 luxury suites with stunning views of Needle Rock and the West Elk Mountains.  The Smith Fork Ranch is an all-inclusive luxury ranch serving one group at a time.

Wine Tasting – Hotchkiss and Cedaredge (June 29 & Aug 1) 

We will taste at the Storm Cellar, Mesa Winds Farm & Winery, William’s Cellars and Stoney Mesa. Tasting fees vary by location. Tours at some locations.

How Sweet It Is! Tribute To James Taylor (April 20) 

 Nashville-based Steve Leslie is an awarded singer/songwriter/guitarist. Leslie performs the music of one of his greatest influences, James, Taylor, in an authentic and spellbinding concert event. Leslie is accompanied by his musical partner on piano. Delta-Montrose Community Concert Association event.

Summer Frolic – Music Fest & Telluride Chamber Music Festival (June 25) 

Come and enjoy an amazing program including music by Mozart, Prokofiev, Bartok, Vieuxtemps, Bunch, Zaretsky and Sheronick alongside the dancing talents of former PILOBOLUS members Casey Howes and Jacob Warren who are performing at the Palm Theatre. Performance begins at 6:00 pm.

North Fork Gorge To Pleasure Park – Western Slope Sup (May 23) 

This scenic rafting tour features beginner whitewater rapids (class I/II). We will float past waterfalls, dripping springs, nesting herons and eagles, and beautiful canyon scenery. Enjoy a top-rated rafting adventure through Colorado’s North Fork Gorge.

U-Pick Float Trip – Western Slope Sup (June 11) 

 This tour begins with an orchard tour and U-pick experience at Honey Rock Landing Orchard. Your first 2 pounds of cherries are included. We raft in the Dominguez & Escalante National Conservation Area and our guides will prepare a locally sourced organic lunch served riverside. Take out is at Bridgeport.

    Black Ridge Trail – Colorado  National Monument (April 22) 

    This is an approximate 4.5 mi RT hike with 225 ft. elevation gain taking us to a rock bridge which is our turn around point; moderate hike. Our guide will share historic photos and discuss the flora in the area. This is from the direction we haven’t done before.

    Deadhorse Trail – North Rim Black Canyon  (May 2) 

    The Deadhorse trail travels back from the rim of the canyon through an uplands area of oak brush and sage to a primitive overlook of the East Portal of the Black Canyon just below the Crystal Dam. This is a moderate, 5.5 mi hike. Top elevation is 8,306; approximate 447 ft. elevation gain.

    Island Lake Trail - Grand Mesa (June 22) 

    The Island Lake trail is located in the Grand Mesa National Forest. The trail closely follows the south shoreline of Island Lake from the Island Lake campground to Highway 65. This trail is 3.2 miles around Island Lake. It is an easy hike; Elevation: 10,224 - 10,267 feet.

    50+ 4-Wheel Drive Trips

    Wildflowers and Waterfalls – Alpine Scenic Tours Ouray (July 13) 

    Alpines expert guides will take us to Silver Basin for colorful wildflowers and stunning waterfalls while sharing the mining history of the area. This is a high elevation, 4 hour tour.

    JJ Jeeps – Crested Butte (July 18 & 20) 

    This 4 wheel adventure is a 1/2 day loop up
    Washington Gulch, past the historic mining town of Elkton, topping out at over 10,300 feet in elevation and dropping back down into the Slate River Valley. Experience spectacular views of the Elk Mountain Range, wildflowers, waterfalls and mining ruins.

    High Mountain Lake Tour – Alpine Scenic Tours Ouray  (July 25) 

    Surreal tree lined ponds mirroring the Red Mountains and the wildflower surroundings of Velocity Lake are both included in this tour. Combine these lakes with panoramic views atop Corkscrew Pass and your memorable
    4 hour tour will be complete.
