Spring Lacrosse
Coming off our most successful season yet, the Montrose Rec District is looking for more players to get involved in this exciting program. During the spring season we will once again schedule games against teams from across the western slope. One of the best parts of MRD Lacrosse is that all the equipment is provided to the participants at no additional charge. Lacrosse is fun, fast paced and a great way for fall and winter athletes to stay in shape and sharpen hand-eye coordination.

Dodgeball Touranment
Yes, that’s right. There is going to be an official dodgeball tournament coming to Montrose. This one-day tournament is open to any student in 6th - 12th grade. Participants can sign up as a team or individually. This double elimination coed tournament will put teams of six against each other in best of five matches.

Outdoor Adventure School
Building on the success of last years program participants will learn the basics of several
different outdoor activities. Activities currently planned are orienteering, hiking, fishing and
overnight camping. These are activities kids can learn and use for a lifetime. Each time we meet we will focus on the fundamental techniques for each activity.

Skateboarding Clinic
Roll on out to Balldridge Skate Park for this 2 day clinic. Learn everything from the basics of skateboarding to some advanced tricks and techniques. This two-day clinic is for participants of all ages and skill levels. All participants must bring their own skateboard and wear a helmet.

Basketball Officiating Clinic
Officiating is a great way to get involved with the Montrose area youth and earn some extra cash. This is a mandatory clinic for anyone who would like to referee during the ’09 MRD youth basketball season. Open to anyone age 15 or older. If you have any questions please call 249-7831 ext. 17.

Biddee Basketball Clinic
This coed clinic is offered to all 4 year olds through kindergarteners. It is a fun and exciting way to introduce young kids to the game of basketball. Instruction will focus on the fundamentals of basketball dribbling, passing, shooting, defensive positioning and FUN. We use small basketballs, shorter baskets, and parent involvement to make this clinic perfect for younger kids. Each clinic has three sessions. This clinic fills up quick so don’t wait to sign up.

Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge
This FREE competition is open to any child ages 7 – 14. There is no pre-registration required and there are separate divisions for boys and girls. Participants will compete in shooting, passing and dribbling drills. The winner in each age division will move on to the regional competition where they will compete for a chance to play at half-time of a Denver Nuggets game in March.

Soccer League
Soccer is a fun way for kids to get off the couch, meet new friends and stay in shape. Our great volunteer coaches make this program a blast for both the kids and parents. Registration forms will be available Monday, February 11, at the Aquatic Center. Sign up early to avoid the late fee and get your choice of practice days. All participants are required to wear the MRD reversible jersey on game days. These are available at Jeans Westerner for $20 and can be worn for many seasons. We need more coaches! If you are interested please indicate it on your child’s registration form.

MHS Spring Soccer Clinic
Partnering with the Montrose High School men’s soccer team, the MRD offers a great way for kids to get a leg up on the spring soccer season. Potential coaches are also welcome free of charge. Coaches and players from the high school will demonstrate various age specific drills and games to get kids and coaches excited about soccer. All participants will get a free MHS Indians soccer shirt. Proceeds will go to the Montrose Indians soccer team.

Introductionto Soccer

Baseball & Softball Leagues
Take part in America’s favorite pastime! The MRD summer ball programs do not conflict with the spring soccer program. Kids will learn teamwork, hand-eye coordination, and sportsmanship. Games are played Monday through Thursday evenings, and fees include the cost of uniform shirts that all participants get to keep at season’s end. Also this year we will have free skills clinics for all ages during the first 2 weeks of the season. More information will be available on these clinics at a later time. Leagues will be formed for the following age groups, with boys and girls competing separately.

Co-ed High School Softball
This first time program is open to any youth between the ages of 15 and 19. Sign up as a team or as an individual. This is a great way to keep in touch with friends through out the summer in a laid back atmosphere. Each team will play 8 games. Teams must have at least 5 men and 5 women. Participants are allowed to play in this league in addition to the adult softball league.

This 3-session clinic is open to any area youth between the ages of 8 and 16. Instructors will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and baserunning in order to give each child an edge during their season. Each session will last approximately an hour and a half. Players need to bring their gloves and athletic shoes. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt.
