Sports, Trips, Classes...Oh My

Spring is in the air...finally. Springtime at the Montrose Recreation District means sorting stacks of registration forms, dusting off sports equipment and getting ready for our busiest time of year. What many people don’t realize is that the Montrose Recreation District offers more than just sports – much more.

There is a full schedule of recreational programs from martial arts to mountain biking. You don’t have to play softball or soccer to get involved with the Montrose Recreation District. In fact, MRD welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels.

This spring the district has a variety recreational activities planned, including Toddler Time, Cardio Kickboxing, Shito Ryu Karate, Drop-In Climbing Wall, Mountain Bike Skills, Bike Maintenance and Motorcycle Rider Courses. The best part about the recreational programming is that you can decide what MRD provides. MRD is continuously looking for new and exciting programs to offer the community. All of the instructors are local citizens with a special passion for what they teach. Suggestions for classes are always welcome. In addition to recreational programming, the Montrose Recreation District also owns and operates the Aquatic Center, 25 Colorado Ave. Designed for lap swim and play, the indoor and outdoors pools are great for learning and leisure. Not to mention a great aerobic workout.

Perhaps most representative of MRD’s program diversity is the 50+ programming. Operated mainly in the Senior Center at the Montrose Pavilion, the 50+ programming ranges from river rafting to bridge. Our 50+ schedule is bursting at the seams with daily activities, health and wellness classes, adventures and arts. This spring is no exception. A dance concert, fishing, crane landing, stock dog trials, railroad excursion and a JUCO World Series game are just some of the spring adventures MRD has planned. There’s no shortage of daily activities either, including cards, billiards, art, yoga and much more.

MRD still provides a full line-up of sport leagues for youth, adults and the 50+ generation. Our adult softball program offers multiple leagues featuring different levels of play and competition. There’s even a senior leisure league.

MRD provides more than your traditional sport leagues too. Youth Lacrosse was added two years ago and the program keeps growing. There’s also intro clinics for children as young as three. Of course, the most popular sport offered by the Montrose Recreation District is soccer. There’s a league for all ages and all skill levels. With an Introduction to Soccer Clinic and a youth league, children from age three to 13 can play. There’s also an adult drop-in league that offers a laid back atmosphere and a premier soccer league which offers the experienced player fast paced and aggressive competition.

Remember, whether you play a sport, wield a paintbrush or want to try something new, the Montrose Recreation District has a place for you. It’s never to early or late to enrich your mind and body at the Montrose Recreation District.
