FitZone Drop-in Fitness Classes

The Montrose Recreation District offers a variety of fitness classes all of which are included with an annual pass, punch pass, or daily admission to the Montrose Community Recreation Center.  There is no additional fee to participate in any of the FitZone Classes!!

MRD’s classes take place on the blue gymnasium court or at a limited capacity in the Fit Zone to maximize physical distancing and participant safety. Please review the following schedule for class times:

MONDAY

  • 9:15am-10:00am – SilverSneakers Yoga with Kathy in Gym (Blue Court) (30 participants max)
  • 10:30am-11:30am – Body Sculpting with Kim in Gym (Blue Court) (30 participants max)
  • 11:00am-12:00pm – Tai Chi with Jan in the Fit Zone (15 participants max)
  • 5:45pm-6:45pm – Dance Fitness with Ali in the Fit Zone (15 participants max) (begins May 24)

 TUESDAY

  • 6:00am-7:00am – Spinning with Samantha in the Fit Zone (15 participants max) (begins June 1)
  • 8:00am- 9:00am - TRX with John in the Fitzone (10 participant max)(Begins June 22)
  • 10:00am-11:00am – Barre with Rebecca in Gymnasium (Blue Court) (30 participants max)
  • 5:45pm-6:45pm – Spinning with Rebecca in the Fit Zone (15 participants max) (begins June 1)

 WEDNESDAY

  • 9:30am-10:30am – Zumba with Rebecca in the Fit Zone (15 participants max) (begins June 9) 
  • 10:45am - 11:45am Yoga with Stanlee in the Fit Zone (15 participants max) (Chairs optional for those with movement restrictions)

 Important Information – Please Read Prior to Attending

  • All classes are reservation based
  • You can place a reservation for class the day prior to class any time after 8:00am. Reservations for Monday classes open at 8:00am the previous Friday
  • Reservations can be made online, by phone (970) 249-7705, or in-person at the CRC. 
  • Walk-ins will be accepted if not all class spots are full or if a registered participant has not checked in by the start of class. 
  • Please bring your own mat for all classes that are not chair based.
  • Please keep at least 6-feet between other participants and at least 12-feet from the instructor. 
  • Please maintain physical distancing at all times when collecting equipment for class. 
  • Please bring a filled water bottle for class. Water bottle filling stations are available.  
  • Classes that lack adequate participation numbers will be cancelled so MRD can be fiscally responsible with membership fees. 

GROUP FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Barre – A high energy fitness experience that fuses exercise techniques from the worlds of Pilates, body sculpting, ballet, and yoga. This full body workout incorporates weights, exercise balls and mat exercises. It is perfect for people of all fitness and experience levels.

Body Sculpting – Using a variety of equipment, instructors will take you through a workout that will challenge all the major muscle groups! This class is designed to strengthen and tone your entire body. 

Breath Work & Meditation – Practice the art of inner healing through a blend of Tantric, Kundalini & Taoist breath work and meditation. Bring greater wellness to your body as we reduce stress and negative thoughts while increasing joy and vitality. Whether you’re an athlete, healing from an injury, looking to reduce stress or just curious about the benefits of these practices, you’ll walk away with something new and to weave into daily life.

Dance Fitness - A full body workout that is a lot of fun. Focus is on cardiovascular exercise as well as toning. Instructors incorporate different styles of dance, fitness moves, and music to optimize your Dance Fitness experience. Choreography is simple and easy to learn, with a combination of dance styles, including Latin rhythms, Hip Hop, and Country, just to name a few. A “Happy Hour” guaranteed to make you sweat, smile, and feel great! Please join us! This isn’t your Mama’s Zumba! 

Gentle Flow Yoga – Practice gentle asana sequences to calm the mind, open the body and strengthen form. Breathing techniques and props will help connect to a core base movement.  Each session ends in connection to our energy centers and savasana.  This class is suitable for all levels, including beginners.

SilverSneakers Yoga – Get ready to move through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered so you can perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. 

Spinning – This indoor cycling class provides all the terrain you need - hills, climbs, flats, and more! Spin helps you increase strength and cardiovascular endurance and is easy on the joints. Arrive early so you can get your bike setup and adjusted.

Tai Chi – Known as moving meditation and can be done by anyone. This form (based on Sun Style & some Chen) is extremely gentle on joints and increases strength in the back and abdominal muscles. It is excellent for balance, easing stress, relaxing, and invigorating the body all while quieting the mind. 

Yoga/Pilates/Tai Chi – A new class for all ages and levels that combines the basic principles and practices of yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi. Chairs are optional for those with movement limitations.  

Zumba – A Latin inspired cardio-dance workout. No special skills required. Join the party!
